ABOUT Tartu Environmental Education Centre

TThe nature house, located just around the corner from the center of Tartu, is home to the Tartu Environmental Education Center, which has its roots in seven decades. Inspired by the cracks in the dried tree stump, the Y-shaped building takes advantage of the relief landscape, integrating the surrounding park area into the whole complex.

In the construction of the energy-efficient building, environmentally friendly materials have been used in both construction and finishing (wood, clay plaster and paint, etc.). From the central atrium, the three wings house classrooms and teachers’ rooms of different sizes, a library and organic kitchen, and the building’s most impressive space – a five-level conservatory where turtles floating side by side in a large pool with plants from all over the world.

The park area, which has been redesigned by architects, enables active outdoor learning, organizing public events or just being cozy for the city citizen. The family values of the Nature House – conscious environmental friendliness and its growth and openness to all – also characterize the architecture of the house well.
